In July 2004 the Mercia Branch of The Battlefields Trust, working in partnership with the local community, began a major new survey on the battlefield of Edgehill. The project was grant aided by the Local Heritage Initiative, had the cooperation of the landowner (the Ministry of Defence) and the assistance of the County Council and Portable Antiquities Scheme. Over a two years the Trust's project officer led a team of volunteers, comprising local people and Trust members, carrying out an intensive investigation of the history and archaeology of the battle and battlefield.
