Battlefields Trust publishes new guidance on managing change on battlefields

The Battlefields Trust has published guidance for heritage and planning professionals to help them manage change on our historic battlefields.

A training day for heritage professionals about battlefields run by the Trust in April 2022 revealed a gap in guidance information about understanding battlefield landscapes and archaeology and how development proposals could best be managed on them.

The Battlefields Trust undertook to write the guidance, which benefits from comments made by Historic England and practitioners working in local government.

The Trust’s Research Coordinator, Simon Marsh, said:

‘Working to protecting our battlefields is one of the Trust’s most important functions.’

‘We hope this guidance will assist this by helping heritage professionals to better advise planning colleagues on the most effective ways to mitigate development harm to our rich battlefield heritage.’
