Memorial Notes:
The tomb is mentioned in the church guide book. The tomb appears to have first be constructed in the late 15th century, possibly by the widow of Thomas Talbot, Viscount Lisle. The latter by tradition owned the manor of Painswick and was a bitter enemy of William Berkeley, Baron Berkeley. Talbot was slain in battle when their respective forces met at the private battle of Nibley Green, 20th March, 1470. His body was probably brought back here for a proper burial as was usually the custom of the day. This battle was the culmination of a long lasting inheritance dispute concerning property rights.
