John, Lord Cheney
Brother of the Dean of Salisbury, he was Bodyguard and Chief Henchman to Kings Edward IV, Richard III and Henry VII, and was knighted by all three. At the Battle of Bosworth he was unhorsed but unhurt by a blow from Richard III, rescuing the Lancastrian banner when the bearer was killed. He was JP for Dorset, MP for Wiltshire and a Privy Councillor. After a distinguished military career, he died in 1499. His tomb was originally in the {Bishop) Beauchamp Chantry.
