The battle of Castillon saw the death of John Talbot, earl of Shrewsbury, arguably precipitating the loss of English France. The battle also featured the use by the French of a field camp defended by artillery, a practice subsequently observed at Ludford Bridge (1459) and the battle of Northampton (1460)
