Memorial Notes:

Thomas Vaughan was the half-brother of William Herbert, earl of Pembroke, and held numerous offices in the Welsh march. He accompanied his half-brothers to the battle of Edgcote and was killed there. Welsh commemorative poetry suggests Elin herself brought his body home for burial. She had a powerful reputation and was credited with having killed a cousin who had killed her brother Dafydd Fychan of Llinwent. For the poetry see David Hale, 'Death and Commemoration in Late Medieval Wales' (University of South Wales Ph D, 2018), online at https://pure.southwales.ac.uk/en/studentTheses/death-and-commemoration-in-late-medieval-wales
