Born in 1446, Percy commanded Richard III's rearguard at the battle of Bosworth, which does not seem to have been committed during the fighting. He was taken prisoner after the battle, but was subsequently received into favour and restored to his offices of warden of the northern marches and captain of Berwick. He was killed attempting to suppress opposition to taxes near Thirsk on 28 April 1489.
