Memorial Notes:
The son of James Tuchet, 5th baron Audley, who was killed leading the Lancastrian army at Blore Heath in 1459, John Tuchet became a supporter of the House of York after being captured in Calais in 1460 when serving with Somerset's expedition to recapture the town and marches for the Lancastrians. He fought for Edward IV at the battles of Mortimers Cross (1461), Barnet (1471) and Tewkesbury (1471) and was the father of James, 7th baron Audley who was executed for his involvement in the Cornish rebellion of 1497.
Following its confiscation from the Lancastrian James Butler, the manor of Shere Vachery had been granted to Tuchet in 1467 . When the Butlers' estates were restored to them after the accession of Henry VII, they granted Shere to Reginald Bray who in turn allowed Tuchet to remain in possession of the manor in return for an annual rent of £10
He was buried there following his death in 1491.
