Ever since the 18th century the six shields depicted in 14th century stained glass at Fladbury church, three miles from Evesham, have been said to commemorate fallen from the battle of Evesham. The glass was claimed to have been taken from Evesham Abbey, or even the Battlewell chapel, at the Dissolution. However Cox has argued that they may not in fact relate to the battle, and that the one with the lion rampant may not even be the arms of de Montfort, but rather of a local 14th century family.
