Memorial Notes:

It is unlikely that King Charles I occupied this room in Shaw House before or during the second battle of Newbury. If the impact damage was caused by a musket ball, it is unlikely to have been during fighting on 26 October 1644 as this was for control of Clay Hill, approximately 950 metres to the north east of the house and beyond the range of a musket. It is more likely to have been a result of fighting on 27 October, which came up to the perimeter of the gardens of the house.
