Memorial Notes:

There appear to be no records of a Captain John Meynell in the Royalist army and no record of any engagement at Burton Bridge in 1647. The Battle of Burton Bridge took place on 4 July 1643. It is possible that the error in the date is due to the epitaph to the son being added to the memorial to the father many years after the event (possibly because of the ascendancy of the Parliamentarians in the Derbyshire area) and the actual date of the battle having been forgotten and erroneously applied.
