Sandsfoot castle - An introduction
When England fell into civil war in the 1640s, Sandsfoot became important again as a fortification for soldiers and as a mint where coinage was made and stored safely. Soldiers kept cold and lonely watch on the castle walls, looking for an enemy approaching and warming themselves, off duty, by the fireplaces that can still be seen.
