There was fighting in Weymouth in February 1645. The area of modern Weymouth north of the river was called Melcombe Regis at the Civil War times.

Location within building:
The plaque and cannonball are both on the outside of the RAFA building facing Maiden Street. The plaque is at eye-level, near the entrance to Helen Lane. The replica cannonball is high on the gable end near the right hand end of the building, close to the junction with St Edmund Street.
