Two of the bastions were destroyed in Priory Street, along with some of the wall, by Parliamentary guns in the Siege of Colchester during the English Civil War in 1648. ..... After the siege the stretch of damaged wall in Priory Street was rebuilt in brick. In 1992 a section collapsed and was replaced with new brickwork.
