Memorial Notes:

Walter Powell was deputy steward and receiver to the Earl of Worcester, one of Charles I's most loyal supporters. His own allegiance is complex: he was, for some reason, imprisoned in Raglan Castle at the beginning of the siege but was eventually allowed out through the besieging forces. His diary can be accessed at https://archive.org/details/diaryofwalterpow00powerich/mode/2up. It is a key source for the impact of the Civil War in Monmouthshire.
