King's Lynn's original custom house was built on Tuesday Market Place during the reign of Kings Charles I. Unsurprisingly, it was adorned with a statue of the King. When a new custom house was built in 1683, the statue was removed and was eventually re-sited to what is now Bank House, a late 17th century building on King's Staithe Square, although much of what is visible today dates from the 18th century.
