This statue of King Charles II is similar in style to the one of his father that adorns the near-by Bank House. In 1683, a new custom house (designed by Henry Bell) was built on what is now Purfleet South Quay. This statue of the then monarch was placed in an arched niche, about first floor height. The statue is on a semi-circular pedestal flanked by a pair of Corinthian pilasters. See the Historic England Record 1195414.
