Condition Description:
A full refurbishment of the fabric of St Stephen's Hall was completed in 2023. This included a detailed condition survey of all the statues.
Memorial Notes:
The marble statue was carved by the prolific Victorian sculptor John Bell. It is part of a set of twelve. St Stephen's Hall where the statue stands on the site of the original medieval St Stephen's Chapel where the House of Commons met until the fire of 1834. The Hampden statue is located close to where Charles I entered Parliament with soldiers to arrest Hampden and four other MPs in January 1642. Two brass studs in the floor mark the former position of the Speaker's Chair and the Table of the House,
