Kirk Gate was for many years the route of the Great North Road into and out of the Market Place. Until Henry VIII's reformation the timber framed buildings, part way down the road were owned by the church. During the Civil War they were owned by Lord and Lady Francis Leake.
The text goes on to tell of Queen Henrietta Maria's stay in Newark from 16th June - 3rd July 1643, when she was hosted by Lord and Lady Leake. A map shows the location of the other panels on the trail and information is given on how to download and use the app.
