St Mary Magdalene Church was the focus for all the births, deaths and marriages that took place during the Civil War. During the third siege plague claimed many victims who were laid to rest in the churchyard. The church could be seen for many miles around, but also provided a lookout for the defenders of the town.
The text goes on to talk about John Twentyman witnessing Prince Rupert's relief of the second siege from the church tower and the effects of Bubonic plague during and after the final siege.
