The Market Place would have been the focus of daily life. During the Civil War, people would have used the Market Place to buy and sell food and goods brought in from neighbouring villages. During the sieges this would have become increasingly difficult and food would have been scarce.
The text goes on to tell the story of Alderman Hercules Clay, whose house was on the spot and destroyed on 11th March 1644 and also talks about the Governor's House opposite the panel. A map shows the location of other panels on the trail and there are details of how to download and use the app.
