This house was owned by Francis Leeke, Lord Deincourt, who hosted Henrietta Maria during her visit to Newark from 16th June - 3rd July 1643. It is now thought that it wouldn't have been grand enough to host the Queen, but some of her entourage would have stayed here. She titled herself 'her she majesty generalissima' at the head of the mercenary army she had brought from the continent.
