Runaway Lane
Civil War - Battles of Modbury 1642-1643

In February 1643, two thousand Royalist troops withdrew
from the conflict down this lane, following a battle that
had lasted twelve hours.
They had been outnumbered four to one by the
Parliament forces during the second battle of Modbury,
the immediate result of which was the raising of the
siege of Plymouth.

The Local Heritage Initiative has funded this plaque.
