Captain Shenton's Tree. This tablet marks the site formally occupied by a tree in which Captain John Shenton, an officer in the army of Charles I, hid to escape capture by the soldiers of the Parliamentary forces during the Great Civil War circa 1645. The wind blew down the tree in 1942.
