Dating from 1280, the church was rebuilt in 1500-4 and again in 1628-31 (it was re-consecrated by Archbishop Laud - the 'popish' manner of this service was brought against him at his trial). The church, which survived the Great Fire has a wooden statue of Charles I in the nave. The Laud Chapel, today furnished by the Society of King Charles the Martyr, is at the south-east corner of the church.
