Sir Henry Vane was a leading parliamentarian and sat as an MP in the Short and Long Parliaments. he led the Westminster delegation that agreed the Solemn League and Covenant in 1643 which brought the Scots into the Civil War on Parliament's side the following year. He was exempted from the Indemnity and Oblivion Act in 1660, though granted clemency by the King. However, in late 1661 the Cavalier Parliament demanded his return to the Tower of London. He was tried in 1662 and subsequently executed.
