Battlefields Trust Online Talk: The Anglo-Hanseatic War, 1469-74

Thursday 5th December 2024

In 1469 England picked a fight with the most powerful commercial organisation in Europe. In the midst of an economic slump the country blamed its woes on its trading partners and embarked on a naval war it could ill afford as it descended once more into civil war. How did this happen, and who was really to blame?

Graham Evans studied Modern & Medieval History at the University of Sheffield. He has been the Chair of the Northamptonshire Battlefields Society since 2021. His book written for the Society on the Battle of Edgcote to mark its 550th anniversary won the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum award for best publication. He lectures regularly on the various battles of Northamptonshire and other aspects of local history, both military and otherwise.
