Battlefields Trust Online Lecture: The Siege of York 1644
Wednesday 18th October 2023
Although most people will have heard of the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644, many will be less aware of the reason the battle took place – the Siege of York. In this talk we will cover the events that led up to the siege, the conduct of the siege, the lifting of the siege by Prince Rupert, and the consequences of the events of 2nd July.
Chris Berendt is a retired industrial control systems engineer with a passion for history, particularly military history. The 17th century is one of the periods that is of particular interest to Chris, and having so many battles and sieges in Yorkshire opens a great selection of ‘rabbit holes’ to dive down. The siege of York is a particularly interesting one! Chris is a member of the Battlefields Trust and the YAHS and is Chairman of the Towton Battlefield Society.
