Sieges of Donnington Castle 1644-1646
Sunday 5th November 2023
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING 2024 DUE TO THE INDISPOSITION OF THE MAIN WALK LEADER.
Donnington castle saw several sieges during the Civil War, but was held for the King until the end of March 1646. It is now a ruin in the care of English Heritage, but its earthen defences are still visible in the landscape and its gatehouse still dominates the Newbury skyline..
Join Neil Hart and Simon Marsh to explore the dramatic events the castle was involved in during the Civil War, including its key role in the second battle of Newbury and the so called third battle of Newbury.
Meet at 10:30am at the Donnington castle car park (postcode: RG14 2LE). A charge of £2 (payable by mobile phone) is made by English Heritage for parking.
