Philip Holman (b.1593) was a London merchant who bought the manor at Warwkworth for £14,000 and substantially rebuilt it. He was High Sherriff of Northamptonshire in 1638 and sat on the parliamentary committee in Northampton throughout the Civil War. Archer argues that Holman's knowledge of the local area may have influenced the approach to Banbury by a parliamentarian forces from Northampton before the battle of Middleton Cheney on 6 May 1643.
