This stone of St Robert’s was
Brought here, and under it was
Laid Henry, son of Henry
Slingsby, who being expelled the
House of Commons, and all his
Goods confiscated by act of
Parliament, nothing else
Remained for him to do but to
Endeavour to save his soul. He
Suffered on the 6th day of June,
1658, in the 57th year of his age,
On account of his fidelity to his
King, and attachment to the laws
of his country, being beheaded
by order of the tyrant, Cromwell,
he was translated to a better
place. Sir Thomas Slingsby,
Baronet, no degenerate heir of
His father’s virtues, place this in
The year 1693.
