Battle of Lewes 1264

Sunday 23rd October 2022

In May 2022 thanks to significant funding by the South Downs National Park Authority and historical input from the Battlefields Trust Lewes battlefield became one of the first in the UK to have  a trail interpreted by video QR code readers which can be accessed by mobile phone. . Six posts around the battlefield offer 5-minute videos explaining different aspects of the battle with local actor Mark Williams setting the scene.

On 23 October John Freeman will lead a 2 1/2 hour walk around the Battlefield taking in the QR posts and adding additional information on the battle. The battle site is on the Downs to the west of the town. Lewes is a charming Medieval town with a Norman Castle, ruins of a Cluniac Priory and numerous pubs and restaurants, so a day visit is ideal.

Meet at the West County Hall Car Park (BN71UE) at 2.pm
