Two new regional branches
10 May 2010
The first is the North East and Borders Region which will cover the area from the Borders down through northeast England to Teeside and includes a number of significant battlefields including Solway Moss, Flodden, Otterburn and Halidon Hill. The first priority for the region will be to increase membership. Initially the chairman of the region will be Geoffrey Carter and the secretary will be Justin Sikora. When numbers have grown there will be an AGM at which officers will be elected in the normal way.
The first regional event is planned to be a tour of the battlefield of Flodden on Sunday 18 July under the expert leadership of Clive Hallam-Baker who lives on the battlefield and runs the Battle of Flodden Project. Further details will be circulated directly to members or can be obtained from the chairman. If you are willing to devote some time to building up our membership and activities in this important region, please make contact with the chairman at geoff@silent-commerce.co.uk. All offers of assistance will be gratefully received.
The second is the Wessex Region covering Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. We'll be having our first event in Salisbury on Saturday 19 June, meeting in Salisbury Cathedral Refectory at 2.00pm. Julian Humphrys will take us on a guided tour of the cathedral close which was the scene of an English Civil war skirmish and James IIs headquarters during the Glorious revolution, and then move on to the cathedral itself which houses a number of famous military tombs. There will then be time to explore one or two of the city's museums before we reconvene in a local pub for a pint and an informal chat about future events. All members, wherever they come from, will be most welcome. For further information please contact the DEevelopment Officer on 07930 432444 bor at development.officer@battlefieldstrust.com.
