Battle of Mortimers Cross 1461
Saturday 6th May 2017
Famous for the sighting of three suns in the sky (a “parhelion”) this Wars of the Roses battle in February 1461 changed history for ever. Edward Earl of March, only 18 years old (the Yorkist victor), became King Edward IV following the battle and Lancastrian Owen Tudor, King Henry VIII’s great grandfather, lost his head.
This event begins at the Mortimer’s Cross Inn (HR6 9PD) at 9.30 am and concludes back at the Inn at 16.30 for afternoon tea and discussion
The day includes morning coffee, guided walks of the battlefield, buffet lunch in Kingsland and afternoon tea and cakes
An arms and armour presentation and walk of battle related medieval Kingsland is included.
A Donation of £20.00 per adult (£15.00 for Battlefield Trust Members) is invited to cover everything provided on the day (including lunch, coffee and afternoon tea) and to support the Mortimer’s Cross Battlefield Project.
Places are limited so pre-booking is highly recommended and for updates/changes.
