Century of the Soldier Conference 2017

Saturday 23rd September 2017

Helion and Company are proud to announce the third Century of the Soldier conference. This year’s conference is being supported by the Pike and Shot Society and once again it will be held at Rowley’s House, Chester University’s education hub at the heart of historic Shrewsbury. This year will see The Cromwell Association, The Battlefields Trust and the British Civil Wars Regimental wiki research team come and join the conference.

Members of Col. Nicholas Devereux’s regiment will be giving a brief demonstration of the exercise of arms at lunchtime and Professor Peter Gaunt of Chester University will be the keynote speaker and open the conference.

The end of session plenary will be hosted by Professor Malcolm Wanklyn. Once again, there is a wide range of papers covering a variety of topics, and many of the delegates will be publishing with Helion. It is intended that the day will offer a stimulating and informative environment, facilitating research and promoting interest in this most important and fascinating of wars in Britain’s past.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Home and Away. The British Experience of War 1618-1721’, and Helion will be launching new publications on the day with special introductory offers. Drinks will be available through the day and a buffet lunch will be provided.
