Sieges of Camulodunum AD 61 and Colchester 1648

Sunday 8th March 2020

Two for the price of one! In Roman times Colchester (Camulodunum) was attacked and destroyed during Boudica's rebellion in AD 61. In 1648 Colchester was the site where a royalist army of 5,600 men was besieged by parliamentarians. We will look at the actions of both the attackers and the defenders of these actions and the sites remaining.

The walk will last approximately two hours and afterwards attendees may want to visit Colchester Castle Museum with its excellent Roman and English Civil War displays.

The Trust has negotiated a reduction in the museum entrance fees for adults down from £10.00.to £7.75, provided we have a group of twelve or more persons. The museum does not have a senior age concession policy for those aged 60 or over. Please can you let John Morewood know in advance if you wish to visit the museum.

Meet at 11.00 a.m. outside the castle. Stout footwear recommended.
