Battle of Stow-on-the-Wold 1646

Sunday 19th March 2017

The last royal field army was defeated at Stow on the Wold on 21 March 1646 and its commander, Sir Jacob Astley, famously told his parliamentarian foes 'Gentlemen yee may now sit down and play, for you have done all your work, if you fall not out amongst yourselves'.  Simon Marsh will explain how the two armies found themselves fighting at Stow and will discuss the different interpretations about where the battle was fought.

Meet at 10:30am in the public car park adjacent to the Tesco store in Stow (GL54 1BX).
