Brentford and Turnham Green 1642
Saturday 21st January 2017
Simon Marsh and Dr Stephen Porter will talk about the battles of Brentford and Turnham Green. They will describe John Hampden’s decisive role in blunting the royalist attack on London in November1642 in the midst of peace negotiations and the impact the assault had on both sides’ perception of the war.
Simon Marsh is the Battlefields Trust Research Coordinator and Mercia Region Chair. He co-authored Battle for London (Amberley, 2010) about the Edgehill campaign and the royalist attack on London in 1642 with Dr Stephen Porter. He has written about the Civil War for the Journal of Army Historical Research and Pike and Shot Society.
Battlefields Trust member Dr Stephen Porter worked for the Survey of London until his retirement. He co-authored Battle for London with Simon Marsh and has written extensively on London’s history, including The Great Fire of London, The London Charterhouse, Shakespeare’s London and Pepys’s London.
