Agincourt 1415 Lecture
Thursday 12th May 2016
The Battle of Agincourt took place in Northern France just over 600 years ago in 1415, and was a major English victory in the Hundred Year’s War as well as a source of inspiration for Shakespeare’s Henry V. Henry V's victory at Agincourt started a new period in the war. Henry V married the French king's daughter, and their son, later Henry VI of England and Henry II of France, was made heir to the throne of France as well as of England.
However, much conjecture still exists over the exact size of each army, Henry’s decision to order the slaughter of several thousand French prisoners and the huge discrepancy in casualties. ne Curry will bring to life the experience of enduring a medieval battle field, the mechanics of war and the pivotal role of the longbow. Anne is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Southampton. She has worked extensively in the archive repositories of England and France and has given papers worldwide on her researches, as well as appearing on several TV and radio programmes.
Tickets (£10 - which includes a drink on arrival) are available from Banbury Museum website http://www.banburymuseum.org/-Professor-Anne-Curry-The-Agincourt-Lecture
