Staffordshire Military Heritage Weekend

Friday 13th March - Sunday 15th March 2020

Based around the cathedral city of Lichfield, this is the New Region’s first event. It is a joint weekend with members of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides.  Friends and family are welcome.

Based on a "book your own accommodation & catering" basis, come for either two nights or join on Saturday for one night. It is also possible to attend a single event for the day.  For further details on this and meeting places and times please contact Anthony Rich using the details below.

Meet on Friday evening in the Kings Head,

An old coaching inn in Stafford where the Staffordshire Regiment was first raised. The pub is now owned by the Staffs Regimental Association to preserve this historic connection.

Saturday morning: The Civil War in Lichfield.

The fortified Cathedral Close saw siege and battle, changing hands three times and saw the first use of an explosive mine in English history. Discover and walk the story on the spot. Tour led by Battlefields Trust Regional Chair Anthony Rich

Saturday afternoon: The National Memorial Arboretum

Particularly the often missed Special Forces Grove with memorials to the SAS and its forerunners, with the latest memorial unveiled last summer to the story of Pegasus Bridge. Led by Guild of Battlefield Guides guide Chris John who is also a NMA volunteer.
